Binghamton Office Renovation

The Binghamton office of the Legal Aid Society of Mid-New York is a building rich with history. Located on Fayette Street in downtown Binghamton, the building has been a part of the downtown Binghamton landscape for nearly 100 years.

Built in the 1920's, this all-brick structure was the site of St. Mary’s Catholic Church convent for over 50 years. In the 1970's the convent was closed, and the building was purchased by Legal Aid of Broome and Chenango counties. The building was acquired by the Legal Aid Society of Mid-New York early in 2005.

New Grants Take Renovation Plans from Drawing Board to Reality

We are pleased to announce grants by the Conrad and Virginia Klee Foundation and Broome County United Way toward our Building Renovation Project.

The Klee Foundation awarded us one-third of the estimated cost, up to $55,000, to repair water damage and construct a new roof. United Way's new Emergency and Capital Needs Fund, a special section of its Trust Fund, donated $21,200. Thanks to these foundations, we are halfway toward fully funding this important project.

Volunteers Give Binghamton Office a New Look

Last year, volunteers helped complete the first phase of renovations. Fresh paint and a new color scheme were put in place on the walls and trim. Ceilings which had previously been spotted with water stains were re-painted. Dusty old carpeting on the first and second floors was torn up, revealing glossy and glistening hardwood.

Of course, none of this would have been possible without the generous help of the many volunteers who graced us with their efforts along the way. Special thanks go out to Catherine Linnemann, who spearheaded the interior decoration effort, and also to the many individuals who participated in the United Way of Broome County's annual Day of Caring event, for the energy, sweat, and time they expended on this project.
