Can Legal Aid Help Everyone Who Needs It ?
No. All across the United States, funding for legal aid in civil cases has been cut back. We have a limited number of lawyers and paralegals on staff. Because of this, we can only serve about 20% of the people who ask for our help. We may not be able to take your case.
In most cases, we help people with emergencies first. Some examples of emergencies are family violence, court eviction hearings and loss of benefits. There may be a waiting list for other kinds of cases.
If we can't take your case, we will give you information about other agencies that may be able to help.
